Start Early, Grow Stronger
Re-establishing trust and the bond between a parent and child can be done by utilizing social/emotional developmental milestones as a guideline.

This poem was written and shared by ‘Rosalie’, a survivor of domestic abuse staying in Safe Harbor’s Greenville emergency safe shelter.
Safe Harbor’s story is a culmination of heart, soul, and the very women who have taken time to share their story; their very personal stories.
Katherine turned 10 years old last month and her birthday wish was to take some of her own savings (plus money she received from friends and relatives) and give this back to her community.
When a child does not feel safe they are unable to undertake the normal developmental processes needed to grow and thrive. Instead, they are only able to focus on survival.
If you get free, if you free yourself, I promise you that ember will spark, and you will begin to burn again.
Safe Harbor’s Oconee Shelter has also enjoyed continuous support from local restaurants, offering a “Chef’s Night Off” by providing dinner for all shelter residents on a monthly basis.
MAKE A GIFTWhen you give to Safe Harbor, 82 cents of every dollar goes directly to our intervention services and prevention initiatives to break the cycle of domestic abuse in the Upstate of South Carolina. |
