WYFF 4’s Chronicle Will Focus on Domestic Violence – 7/25/13

The next edition of WYFF 4’s locally produced news magazine Chronicle will focus on a deadly reality: the alarming rate of domestic violence in South Carolina.

The statistics are staggering. One in four women in the United States will become a victim of criminal domestic violence in their lifetime. South Carolina currently ranks second nationally in the number of women killed by men.

Chronicle: Living in Fear, hosted by Jane Robelot, examines this growing problem. WYFF News 4 reporters Michael Cogdill and Mandy Gaither will share stories of the victims of violence and those who help them escape the cycle of abuse.

Michael is also sharing his own story of domestic violence.

“I lived my boyhood in the shattering threat of a dad who could swing between graceful and gentle man and utter terror. But for all its despair, mine is a story of great hope. Parts of it will echo a noise all too familiar to many of you. It’s bound to remind you of secrets you’ve kept, and still keep. But I share this with designs on helping victims map a way to a safe and permanent escape. I am living proof there is great life after the violence.”- Michael Cogdill

Chronicle: Living in Fear, a high definition news special, will be broadcast on Thursday, July 25 at 7:30 p.m. on WYFF 4. An encore presentation will air on Saturday, July 27 at 7:30pm.
